Sikkim And North Bengal is blessed with beautiful and
luxuriant natural resources both fauna and flora from water and jungle. Sikkim
has two major rivers, Teesta and Rangeet, with a total length of 900 km. These
rivers originate from the glaciers of North and West Sikkim. Along with myriads
of tributaries, the rivers harbour a diverse and rich fish fauna. The most
important is Mahaseer (Tor putitora).
The great
“Masheer” (Tor putitora), a predator, is one of the larger and common species of fish found in the glacial and
spring fed rivers and streams of the region of India, Nepal, Bhutan, Burma, and
Pakistan. The Golden Mahseer is heralded as the aquatic Tiger of the Asian
sub-continent, it is a formidable opponent. Golden armor-plated scales line
powerful flanks and bucket-shaped fins provide it with immense power both to
hold its position in the fastest of currents and equally to strip line from a
reel with unstoppable, finger-burning speed. Its voracious appetite and sheer
strength has given it an almost mythical status, allowing it to obtain weights
in excess of 100lbs. Even in the colder, faster-flowing rivers of Northern
India it can obtain sizes in excess of 50lbs.
The lower belt of the Teesta and toe Rangeet rivers harbour
one of the most popular game fish, Mahaseer (Tor putitora). But it is very
unfortunate to note that this precious game fish population has already
dwindled and the species is under the threat of becoming rare.

feels proud to be part of historical release of three hundred thousand Mahseer
fingerlings in river Teesta jointly organized in association with Gorkhaland
Territorial Administration and Fisheries Department ,Government of West Bengal. Rogue Anglers Company working for last 2 years on project reports, frequent travelling between
Calcutta and Darjeeling, numerous meeting to save mahseer of Teeesta river.
Probably this is first of a kind such a
large scale Mahseer fingerlings release of in India involving all stake
holders, media, Government departments and officials. anglers from Bengal and
Sikkim, Rafting Association members.
Rogue Anglers Company only after being convinced about
the fact fingerlings are 100% native from nearby and connected rivers, got
involved with this project. So NO HYBRID fingerlings were released. Authority
also decided to issue fishing permits and impose strict law against poaching
subject to imprisonment and heavy fine, restrict catch sizes as suggested by
our company.. So we are hoping to have again golden days of Mahseer fishing in India.

February to End of May and again From September to November is the best season.
Nearest International Airport is New Delhi or Calcutta. From there one need to
